Developing A Geo Domain – Part 5

Comments Off on Developing A Geo Domain – Part 5

Here is the final part of the “Developing A Geo Domain” series from the Domainer’s Magazine. This last part discusses monetizing you Geo domain site. I hope you found the series to be informative in some capacity. I wanted to share it with you all, because if any of you are considering getting into Geo domaining, it does cover some of the basics. Make sure to read part one, two, three or four here if you missed any of them!

Monetizing Your Geo domain

Developed Geo domains are different from developed generic domains in the sense that they have more monetization options going for them. Furthermore, the more developed a Geo domain is, the more monetization options are available to its owner. The following are some of the monetization schemes you can try.

Lead Generation and Local Affiliate Marketing

If your Geo domain is tourist-focused, you can generate leads for the businesses in the community you represent. You can target people who are looking for hotels, car rental services, and other tourist-oriented services online by providing searchable and interactive service databases on your site; to get their results, they will have to fill out your basic lead generation form. If your content is highly valuable to tourists – say, you provide information on the latest hotel, air and car rental deals – you can provide an email alert or newsletter service to your site visitors. You can sell the leads you collect through these means to the local businesses that can benefit from them.

You can also act as an affiliate marketer for local businesses. In this case, you will get a commission for every one of your referrals who completes a desired action online or offline (an order, a subscription, an appointment, etc.) with your advertiser.

Traditional CPC

Traditional CPC platforms like AdSense may be employed in Geo domain revenue generation. This is the basic domain monetization scheme, however, and Geo domains can and should explore other options.

Local Business Advertising

Do you know that approximately $120 Billion is spent by businesses every year on local advertising? Most of these dollars are going to offline media like the yellow pages, local newspapers, billboards, and radio ads. Local businesses are starting to utilize internet media for advertising, however, and Geo domainers are expected to benefit a lot from this trend. After all, Geo domains are particularly suited as local business advertising vehicles.

Keep in mind though that starting a local business advertising business through your Geo domain can be hard. You might find it hard to market your Geo domain to local businesses, for instance. A well known Geo domainer also warned that local media like the local paper will probably hate you as you try to take advertising dollars away from them. Nevertheless, as your traffic grows and as you gain testimonials from your initial clients, your Geo domain cannot help but grow and become the primary choice of local advertisers who wish to promote their products and services online.

Thanks again to Domainer’s Magazine for allowing me to publish this article.
